The formidable K-3 II from Pentax is an advanced professional-level DSLR that is designed to challenge other brands and models in much higher price ranges. The K-3 II features a powerful 24.35MP APS CMOS sensor coupled with a PRIME III image processor resulting in a system that is fully optimised for high resolution shooting and high speed performance. The camera sensitivity rating is also very good with a range of ISO 100-51200, making it ideal for a wide variety of shooting conditions. The K-3 II can easily handle shooting 8.3 fps as well as 1080p Full HD Video. A selectable anti-aliasing filter is also included and helps to enhance resolution and protect against moiré. Special features Besides a formidable image processing system, the Pentax K3-II also comes with a few other very interesting and useful features. The camera features a sensor-shift mode which is part of Pentax’s Pixel Shift Resolution function. Sensor-shift takes four separate exposures and composites them into one single frame while at the same time shifting the sensor in single pixel increments. The result is higher resolution, truer colours and a significant reduction in noise. The AstroTracer function also forms part of the sensor-shift feature and utilises the built-in GPS to compensate for the rotation of the Earth, reducing the appearance of star ‘trails’ when shooting night skies.
